Not connected with GS1
UPC Generator is an independent website. It is not GS1, not a GS1 member organization and not a GS1 solution partner. It has no agreement with GS1 or with any retailer or marketplace. GS1 and UPC are the names of other organizations' standards and marks, used here only to say which standards the tools follow.
A generated code is not a licensed number
The tools draw whatever number or text you type. They do not issue, license, register or look up numbers. A retail UPC, EAN or GTIN that a store or marketplace will accept is licensed through GS1 to the company that owns the product. This site cannot give you one. A barcode made here from a number you invented is a picture of that number and nothing more. The same holds for a number licensed to someone else. Using it on goods for sale can get a listing removed and may break the law where it misleads a buyer or a retailer.
No guarantee that a barcode will scan
Every encoder here is tested against published standards and read back by decoding software before a release. That is not the same as a scan on paper. Whether a printed barcode reads depends on your printer and its resolution and on the label material and ink. It also depends on the size and colors you chose and the clear space around the bars. The scanner model and its settings matter as much. None of that can be tested from a web page. No file from these tools is guaranteed to scan on any particular printer, scanner, phone or checkout system.
Print and test before a production run
Before you print labels in quantity, send artwork to a press or ship cartons, print one sample on the equipment you will use. Scan it with the scanner your customer or warehouse uses. If a retailer grades barcodes, ask for its verification report before the run. Finding a problem on one label costs minutes; finding it on a pallet costs the pallet.
Information, not advice
The guides and the figures on tool pages are summaries of published documents, listed on each page with the date they were fetched. They are general information, not legal, tax, trademark or business advice. They do not replace the standards themselves, a retailer's own vendor requirements, or a professional who knows your situation. Standards, prices and marketplace rules change, and a page can be out of date before the date at its top moves.
Other websites
Links to GS1, marketplaces, software makers and other sites go to documents that UPC Generator does not control. Their content can change after it was fetched. Following a link is your choice, and that site's own terms apply once you are there.
Mistakes
If you find an error in a barcode, a figure or a guide, write to hello@upcgenerator.net. Encoder errors are fixed first, with a test added so they cannot return. The terms of use set out the limits of the site's liability, and the editorial policy explains how pages are made and tested.
